Hey, so you remember Jennifer's call about the date nearly a week ago? She said it was February 8th then so you know that today is February 14th, which you know is a holiday in some countries in the world a lot of us are somewhat familiar with. How it's celebrated really isn't all that important, but it's a holiday designated for love--[ The word is spoken in the only form a tsundere can say it in. ]--so I was honestly expecting this thing here to buzz with a billion love confessions.

[ But enough about her poor love life. ]

As a sign of gratitude for reminding you of the holiday, I'd like to hear your opinions on Miss Beth Yao. A number of you have met her and have been told things about her, haven't you? Consider me curious as to your opinions on her. [ A rare, once in a lifetime opportunity for Rin to give a damn about someone's opinion. Grasp it while you can. ] Surely you have to have something in mind after all we've gone through, right? Well, let's hear it. I don't really have all day to sit around waiting on this stupid phone to entertain me, so be prompt with your replies.

[ For those who do know her, a new scar can be seen creeping out from her turtleneck sweater along her neck. She's done her best to cover it up by wearing this outfit of choice, but maybe she underestimates the phone's camera or just doesn't seem to care about it. ]

Is any world fit to celebrate a holiday about love? Honestly, it isn't as if this is the only rotten place, but people still make do.

People can make due in just about any situation. It's amazing. But it is also very short notice to learn the holiday is today...

[ She's a huge pessimist who will point out all the wars going on back home in her world, but instead of donating money to people who need it, they spend hundreds of dollars on plastic flowers. ]

Was I supposed to remind everyone when there was an earlier remind of what day it was almost a week ago? I didn't realize everyone here suffered from a short attention span, but next time I'll consider that.

I have only been here for over a week myself, so it is my fault for being unaware.

Oh, is that so? Welcome to Haven where it takes us months to figure out things about our captivity.

[ She's almost just as sincere, though there's a hint of negativity with her words. There's only so much hope someone can have when they've been here for a while. ]

Had I known, I would have been a little bit nicer. Have your roommates helped you figure out everything else?

[ She smiles and nods. ]

Yes. I am lucky in that one of them is someone very close to me. So, I have become acclimated faster than most.

Oh, that is pretty fortunate. [ Pausing.

Someone close to her. Does that mean: ] A friend from home or a friend from somewhere else?

From home. I may be fortunate for that, but I would rather be here alone.

[ It is hard to be happy that someone you care about is in this place, even if it does mean getting used to it herself more quickly than everyone else. ]

That's brave of you, but you don't have to lie. Many others would be lucky to have a friend here.

[ She tries to sell it as if it's all right to wish the same kind of fate on a dear one, but it really isn't. The lie causes her expression to falter as she looks away. ]

[ She blinks. She does not think to keep her confusion from showing on her face, and she looks quite confused.

She did not lie at all. Her expression turns to one of embarrassment. ]

Of course. I didn't--I did not mean to imply anything. I am sorry. I am lucky in a way I suspect many here are not; I did not mean to sound ungrateful.

[ No, the only one lying between the two is Rin herself, though she's trying to keep that contained. ]

No, it's not that... I just don't understand how someone can be so strong to admit that it'll be all right to be the only one here. Do you make friends easily or something?

I would not say so. Not more easily than most. I am a bit awkward in that regard. And I am not what I would call strong.

I would rather no one else have to deal with this, that is all.

[gandere]

That's still strength whether you choose to call it that or not. Anyone who can bravely admit they rather have no one else share in this kind of thing and that they could do it alone instead is a brave person indeed.

Well, not that I'm qualified to comment on bravery myself.
